Fox and YouTube TV reached a last-minute distribution agreement(배급,송출 계약) late Thursday night, ensuring that Fox’s programming remains available on the streaming platform. The deal was finalized just hours after a short-term extension was granted to prevent(~을 방지하다) an immediate blackout, which had been scheduled for 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday. The agreement preserves access to Fox’s wide range of content, including its flagship broadcast network, FS1, Big Ten Network, Fox News Channel, and local affiliates(계열사,제휴사). Millions of subscribers were at risk of losing access to Fox programming during a critical period, marked by the start of the college football season and the NFL’s upcoming Kickoff Game. The negotiation process was quite intense, as YouTube argued that Fox demanded fees far higher than comparable content providers, while Fox countered(반박하다,대응하다) that Google was exploiting its influence with unreasonable terms. The Federal Communications Commission’s Brendan Carr publicly urged Google to settle, warning that removing Fox channels would be “a terrible outcome” for fans relying on (~을 의존하다) YouTube TV. Carriage disputes between providers and distributors are common, often timed around major sporting events to increase leverage. For instance, Fox itself went dark (방송·송출이 중단되다) in 23 states for a short time in 2019 due to a dispute with Dish Network. Shortly after, in 2021, Disney content briefly disappeared from YouTube TV. Disney also pulled its subsidiaries ABC and ESPN from DirecTV in 2022. Despite the high-stakes standoff, Thursday’s resolution means subscribers will be able to continue to enjoy Fox’s sports, news, and entertainment without interruption. Meanwhile, YouTube TV added pro-Trump One America News and A Wealth of Entertainment earlier this week, signaling the continued expansion of its lineup even as contentious negotiations with major broadcasters persist.
